With a strong contingent of 1028 small and marginal farmers as shareholders, Pudukkottai Organic Farmers Producer Company Ltd (POFPCL) came into existence in 2014 as a legal entity under the Companies Act, 2013.

Rural Organization for Social Education (ROSE) promoted this Producer Company primarily to conserve indigenous paddy and millet varieties in rain fed lands using organic methods and improve the living conditions of landless agricultural labourers and small and marginal farmers through processing and value additions to agricultural produce produced.

Supporting and taking initiatives for end to end services in agriculture and allied production and marketing so as to generate sustainable and respectful livelihood to small and marginal farmers.

Legal Entity

Pudukkottai Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited (POFPCL) is a producer company registered under sub section (2) of section 7 of the Companies Act, 2013 (vide) Registration No. U01400TN2014PTC096992 dated 19 August, 2014.

The formation of the company was facilitated by Rural Organization for Social Education (ROSE). The company came into existence in August, 2014 with its registered office at ROSE, Pasumaikudil, 21, Selva Nagar, SIPCOT PO, Pudukkottai, PIN: 622002, Tamil Nadu.

The company presently has 1028 members who are basically small and marginal farmers. Processing and Marketing of organic agricultural produce is the key business activity of the company.

Objectives

To take up and support agriculture and crop services to the farmer members.
Procure and supply Agricultural inputs like seed, manure, micro-nutrient etc to the farmers at economic rates, timely and at doorstep.
To create infrastructure for procuring, storing, grading and processing of agriculture produce of the farmer members and support the farmers for marketing through direct purchase, linkage and value addition.
Providing extension services in close coordination with the NABARD, Agriculture and other line departments for reaching the benefits to the small and marginal farmers.
To carry on the production, procurement, storage, processing, packing, distribution, marketing, selling and trading of all agricultural, horticultural, vegetables, medicinal, spices crops for ultimate benefits to the members of the company.
To undertake Organic production program, processing and Certification, Export and trade business (as per National and International norms and Standards) of all agricultural, Horticultural Vegetables Crops by the members and non-member producers of the company. It will include Import and hire of goods and services in all forms, for the benefit of the members.
To manufacture, produce, process and sell or supply all kind of Inputs mainly to the members.
To render technical services, consultancy services, training, research and development and all other activities for the welfare and promotion of the interests of its members.

Key Achievements

Around 1000 tons of agro products such as paddy, millet, pulses and oil seeds are procured and marketed by the FPO
3500 plus acres of land have been brought under Organic farming in Pudukkottai District by 1028 farmers
Within a period of five years, the FPO has increased the sales turn over from Rs.4,36,322 in 2014-15 to Rs. 1,86,33,777 in 2018-19.
During the current year, the FPO has crossed the same milestone turnover at the end of the third quarter itself.
The members of FPO are given fair price for their products and they receive 10 to 15% margin over the existing market price. Approximately, the margin of increased price would amount to Rs.20 lakh.
The Share Value of Farmers has increased by 75% over the initial share of Rs.1000. At present, each farmer has a value of Rs.1750 as share. (The profit earned by FPO is transferred as dividend to the share holders)
